In Amsterdam, I walked and explored for days on end. I walked until my feet ached like I never thought possible. I bought a cheap plastic basin so I could soak my feet in hot water. In restaurants I puzzled over whether to tip. I ate a lot of good food (sauerkraut mixed into mashed potatoes is wonderful). I had a little breakdown when I realized my mobile phone wasn't going to work. I admired the amazing old buildings. I went for hours at a time without talking to anyone at all. I was grateful for the pissoirs.
What I did not do in Amsterdam:
In Amsterdam, I did not visit prostitutes. I did not smoke pot. I did not buy tulips, herring, or wooden shoes. I did not fall into a canal.
